Gratitude and Hope
#178
Friend,
I’m beginning to think that gratitude and hope are two sides of the same coin.
Gratitude looks back and notices the good that was.
Hope looks forward and notices the good that can be.
Gratitude and Hope take a bit of work sometimes. Life is sometimes like hiking in dense fog. You know there are beautiful things around you, but it’s easy to forget about them because the fog is everywhere.
I know you are in a season of dense fog. This stress is all around you, and you are just trying to make it through today, and I certainly don’t want to diminish it, but I do want to help you see beyond it.
So look back, I know it'll be hard to see through the fog, but go ahead and look at yesterday: What was something small and beautiful that you saw? Whisper it aloud.
And look ahead, I know it’ll be hard to see through the fog, but go ahead and look ahead: What is something small and beautiful that you are anticipating? Whisper it aloud.
Here’s the incredible power of the Gratitude and Hope coin: the more you practice one, the easier it is to see the other. The fog will still be there, but it won’t be quite as dense, and one day you might not notice the fog because you can’t help but see the beautiful things all around you.
Love,
Aaron

I've never heard gratitude and hope described like that. (past and future). Or maybe I never thought about it. That's a nice quick exercise to do also - helps to get grounded for a moment.
