Friend,
That grief-bomb got you again didn’t it?
Your day was going well, and then boom…
A song on the radio reminded you of him.
Someone ordered her favorite appetizer at lunch.
A facebook memory popped up, and it took you back in time.
That cologne as you walked past someone today.
Long-term grief can be like a broken jack-in-the-box. You aren’t even turning it, and it still pops up. And it is terrifying.
I know you. You are trying not to let it affect you, but the tears are welling up and the breath is getting shorter. Everyone else has moved on, but you can’t.
And that’s ok.
One of my favorite quotes is from the great theologian Winnie the Pooh, “'How lucky am I to have something so special, that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
You had something special, and it’s gone. It’s worth being sad about today. No matter how long ago goodbye was.
Love,
Aaron
P.S. My wife made this art work, and it’s been such a blessing for me as I’ve experienced grief. I hope it helps you.
