Friend,
Darkness is the inability to see ahead.
As a father of two boys, I've encountered one of the formidable weapons of our time: Legos. These small plastic bricks were crafted for two distinct purposes:
1. Building incredibly cool things.
2. Inflicting excruciating pain on parents' unsuspecting feet.
In the shadows, their room transformed into a treacherous minefield.
It's remarkable how the simple act of turning on a light changed the minefield back into a (relatively) peaceful bedroom. With each step, I could discern whether my feet were destined for safety or pain. Even if I couldn't illuminate the entire room a flashlight provided enough insight to navigate the path ahead.
This is what Advent is all about, those little lights that illuminate the way forward as we are surrounded by darkness. Advent begins with hope. We need a little hope to give us the courage to plunge into the darkness ahead. We often need just enough light to see the dangers and the delights that lay ahead. It continues with peace. A reminder that God can bring order to chaos.
I don’t know what is causing a minefield in your life today. It probably is something way more serious than legos, but I hope you know the truth:
Light is the gift that dispels darkness.
Love,
Aaron
Thankful that Jesus is that light!
