Friend,
I did it again.
I felt restless, and I ate those pretzels again.
What do you do when you feel restless? Watch another episode, eat ice cream, or scroll some more.
You are not your best when you are restless. The cycle of restlessness looks like this:
Restless —> Reaction —> Regret
And regret fuels more restlessness, and the cycle repeats again and again.
St. Augustine once said, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”
Your weary heart is restless, but there is a different way. It looks like this. (Credit to Jason Wilson’s book Battle Cry)
Restless —> Reflection —> Release —> Reset —> Rest
Reflection- invite God into why you are feeling restless.
Release- surrender to God your insecurities.
Reset- choose to live in the security of God.
Rest- sit in the incredible love God has for you.
Maybe tonight, I won’t choose pretzels. Maybe tonight, I’ll choose reflection, and that elusive rest will find me.
Love,
Aaron
When the restless turns to peace like a river.
It is well with my soul, not without a lot of times in struggle getting there.
