Friend,
It’s the longest night of the year.
Where I live in Tulsa, we will only have 9 hours and 41 minutes of sunlight.
And it’s supposed to rain, so I have a feeling it will be dark and dreary all day.
Which might as well just be a metaphor for your year. It’s been the longest year, mostly darkness, and even when it is supposed to be light, then the clouds and the storm have found a way to cover the light that you are desperate for.
The thing about seasons is that when we are in the middle they feel like they will last forever, but when they are past, it seems like a flash. So I want to tell you, it won’t be winter forever.
Spring is coming. And light is breaking through. Glimmer by glimmer.
On Dec. 22nd, we will have 1 second more of light than yesterday.
On December 23rd, 3 seconds more than yesterday.
On December 24th, 7 seconds.
On December 25th, 10 seconds.
On December 26th, 12 seconds.
On December 27th, 17 seconds.
It doesn’t sound like much, but by the middle of January, we are adding a minute every day, and by February 2 minutes every day. And by March 16th, our days are longer than our nights.
So it may be the longest night, in the longest year, but God’s mercies are still new every morning. I hope you experience the mercy of hope a little glimmer of light at a time.
Love,
Aaron
