One period means the end. Something is over. It is complete.
Three periods indicate that there is something that is continuing… These multiple periods (an ellipse) indicate a pause, a silence, or my favorite: a suspension point…
Most of us have been trained in periods. It is the basic unit, and it gives us the sense that something has been completed and it is over. The end.
There is an intensity in the ending, a harshness in the finality. We get to the end of a book, a letter, or an article, and it ends.
Sometimes, when we reach an ending in life, we feel its finality. A relationship ends, a job ends, a hope dies, a season ends. And while it is an end, it is not The End…
