Scared Because of the Scar
#208
Friend,
When I was in the 3rd grade, I had my tonsils removed, and for two weeks, I hardly spoke.
It was the strangest two weeks of my parents’ lives.
Two weeks after my surgery, we went to the doctor for a follow-up visit, and the Dr. said my throat is healed, and I should be able to speak freely. And on the way home, I started talking (and I haven’t stopped since).
Here’s the thing: I could have been speaking just a couple of days after my surgery, but I was scared because of the scar. I could talk, but I barely even attempted speaking as I was unsure if I really could.
What I needed was someone with authority to speak into me that I could speak. At 8 years old, I needed the doctor to say that I could speak.
I think you might be scared because of your scar, and you are hesitant to try something new or get “back out there.” You need someone to tell you that you are ready.
So, you are ready. I know it’s scary. I know it might even hurt a little at first. But I believe in you, and I want you to believe in yourself, too.
Love,
Aaron
