That's All It Sucks For
#177
Friend,
“That’s all it sucks for.”
Last week, San Francisco 49ers’ rookie Mykel Williams tore his ACL and will miss the rest of the season. (He’s one of many 49ers who have had a significant injury. It’s been a rough year.)
For the past week, though, I’ve been thinking about this quote by the Head Coach, Kyle Shanahan.
“Hopefully, it’s not the worst, but if it is, hey that sucks for this year. But that’s all it sucks for.”
“But that’s all it sucks for.”
I think someone needs to hear that. What you are dealing with is not a great thing, but it’s not a forever thing. It may suck for a week, a month, a semester, or a season, but then it’ll get better. For Mykel Williams, he needed to hear that his whole career won’t need to be defined by this injury. It’ll be tough, but it won’t last.
The problem of the present moment is that it is our exclusive experience. One way to understand maturity is the ability to hold on to an anticipated positive moment while experiencing a current negative moment.
I’m inviting you to remember the future. Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” I don’t know how long your night will be, but I do believe that morning and joy are coming.
Love,
Aaron

Amen and Amen!
