The Gift of an Exposed Wound

An exposed wound gets attention.
A hidden wound gets infection.

It’s amazing what we do to conceal our wounds, even and especially from ourselves. We mask our wounds with busyness. We turn our attention to anything else. We look for the flaws in others instead of the growing infection slowly sucking our souls.

And yet, wounds need healing, because the wound is where the light gets in.

I recently heard this song by Jason Gray, “The Wound is Where the Light Gets In,” and let me share it with you.

“I stood there like a hostage
With a knife held to my vein
Captive to the poison
That I took to numb the pain
Cause everybody wishes
They were born with thicker skin

But the wound is where the light
The wound is where the light
The wound is where the light gets in”

I love that line, “Everybody wishes they were born with thicker skin,” but the truth of being human is wounds happen. The question is not will you be wounded, the question is, will you expose your wounds to the Light?

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” (John 8:12).
