Friend,
As a Pastor, I have a Rolodex of scriptures for any occasion. (I know some of you might have to google Rolodex.)
And for anxiety, I can think of a couple of scriptures that I’m programmed to say:
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6, 7
The problem with having those scriptures so readily available is that I can repeat them without thinking of them. And here is what I realized:
I let the familiarity with scripture take away the power of scripture. Just because I know it by heart doesn’t mean that it is currently transforming my heart.
So if you are anxious today, go back and read those words again, meditate on those words again, and believe those words again.
Love,
Aaron
