Friend,
The news is relentless.
And the reactions to the news are relentless.
I’m sure you’ve seen it. Something happens. People start sharing their instant reactions, then more sharing of instant reactions, and then someone’s reaction goes viral, so people start reacting to that reaction.
And the news—>reaction—>reaction reaction—>reaction to the reaction’s reaction
And in this constant cycle, you feel like you have to contribute. You must have an opinion, be outraged, judgmental, or defensive.
But you don’t.
Here is the good news: you don’t have to have an opinion.
This is one of my favorite lines of late, “I haven’t had time to look into that and form a strong opinion, so I don’t know what I think.”
It’s freeing, and so I give it to you. It also helps to organize and normalize an expectation of responding instead of reacting.
