Friend,
A few years ago, I was flipping through Dog Man and Cat Kid, by Dave Pilkey for reasons that I cannot remember. As I was flipping through the book I was captivated by this line,
“And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.”
I was not expecting that level of wisdom from a book with the creative title Dog Man and Cat Kid. However, Dave Pilkey, like most good writers, utilizes quotes and ideas from other writers, and so he credits this line to John Steinbeck in his classic book East of Eden.
And it is a truth for 8-year-olds and 78-year-olds. Read it slowly, aloud,
“And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.”
You won’t be a perfect parent, but you can be a good parent.
You won’t be a perfect friend, but you can be a good friend.
You won’t have a perfect Christmas, but you can have a good Christmas.
Love,
Aaron
Good.
