Friend,
Tonight, I hope you get to hear the words,
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth,
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious world.
Darkness-darkness-flash of light-glorious light.
That is the pattern of Advent to Christmas, which is the pattern of these letters. Ultimately, “Letters to a Weary Soul” is a word for those in Advent that Christmas is coming.
In the Chronicles of Narnia, these four British children are taken by a magical portal (a wardrobe) to a fantastic land of white, cold, and adventure. When they meet Mr. Tumnus, half-goat and half-human, who utters this heartbreaking sentence, “It is winter in Narnia,” said Mr. Tumnus, “and has been for ever so long…. always winter, but never Christmas.”
Thankfully that is not our world.
It is Christmas! Praise be to God. Amid winter, a light has broken free. I pray and hope you feel it tonight.
"Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O Night Divine.
O Night when Christ was born.”
Love,
Aaron
Merry Christmas ✨
