Tragic Choices
#176
Friend,
“Rather than waste your time being stressed over making the right decision, make the decision right.” Dr. Ellen Langer
I know the decision you are facing feels impossible.
That might be because it is.
I’ve learned a new phrase recently: Tragic Choice. A Tragic Choice is a high-stakes decision with a low probability of favorable outcomes. (Actually a book from 1978)
Not only do tragic choices lead to unfortunate endings, but they are agonizing in the middle. Most of us want to do the right thing, but what do you do when all the things seem wrong?
You’ve faced a Tragic Choice before:
The Doctor gave you treatment options that helped, but didn’t heal.
Conflict between other family members forced you into a decision destined to offend.
You were responsible for helping decide what to do during a Global Pandemic.
Sometimes, when you are not satisfied with the options, you want the beautiful pathway to magically open up, and the great decision appears, but that miracle rarely happens. Instead, I think there are two things that I want you to hold onto.
“Rather than waste your time being stressed over making the right decision, make the decision right.” Dr. Ellen Langer. The perfect decision doesn’t exist, so be willing to make the best out of whatever decision you make. Discern, decide, and redeem whatever decision you make.
Expect that Unexpected Grace will come along the way. Something beautiful you can’t foresee is on the path, just around the corner.
Love,
Aaron
