We Don't Grieve Ugly Things
#218
Friend,
We don’t grieve ugly things.
We grieve beautiful things.
We grieve our Mom because she loved us so well.
We grieve our kids leaving home because they brought us delight.
We grieve a friendship lost because chosen and shared companionship is a gift.
Sometimes what we are grieving is not a person but a beautiful idea.
Our Dad might have been largely absent, and when he passes, we are grieving the beautiful idea of fathers who love their children.
Our abusive relationship is over, and so we are grieving the loss of a sense of trust, safety, and beauty that love should provide.
Even grieving a former habit like drinking or smoking isn’t about grieving the act, but about the feeling of relief that a habit can provide.
You may be an ugly crier, but you don’t grieve ugly things.
Love,
Aaron
