Friend,
Jesus never promised, “I will fix your problems.”
Jesus promised, “I will be with you always.”
Most of the time when I pray to Jesus, I am praying for Jesus to fix something.
Make this sick person well.
Help me figure out how to handle this tricky situation.
Can I please have a close parking spot?
And sometimes, God does provide solutions. God does heal. God does give wisdom. God may give parking spots.
But God always promises to be with us. Even when we don’t feel it, acknowledge it, or even desire it. The truth is God is with us. The last thing Jesus told his disciples was, “And surely, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
And God will sit with you in your sadness. He’ll sit with you in your struggles. He’ll sit with you when you can’t imagine a way forward.
And isn’t that a great gift? I’ve done dozens of funerals, and I’ve never had people tell me months later that what I said was enlightening and world-changing. What do people say to me months later? Thank you for being there. I’ll never forget that you were there with me.
My prayer for you today will be for a solution to your weary soul, body, and spirit, but more importantly, I will be praying for you actually to experience the presence of Jesus with you.
And if you need a friend, I’ll come sit with you as well.
Love,
Aaron
P.S. My next Red Letter to a Weary Soul comes out on Friday, and I’d love for you to be a full subscriber. Know someone who needs to hear this word? Share it with a friend.
Thank you for reminding me I am never alone🫶
