When Problems Can't be Fixed
#173
Friend,
Broken things need to be fixed.
A flat tire needs a plug.
A clogged pipe needs to be snaked.
A lamp needs a new lightbulb.
So, it only makes sense that a broken person needs to be fixed, too.
If someone is sad, they need something to make them happy.
If someone is angry, they need to calm down.
If someone is disgusted, they need to be pleased.
Easy.
Thanks for reading.
Now, you know it’s not that easy.
People are not problems to be fixed, but people to be cared for.
Far too often, I’ve been concerned with trying to fix people, trying to repair them as if a person is as simple as changing a lightbulb, instead of caring with them along their healing road.
Jesus once told a story about a man who was beaten up and left for dead. Most of the time, we focus appropriately on the shocking nature of the Samaritan who stops, rather than his actions of care, but the wisdom and insight of Jesus are so important here.
In the story, the Samaritan never fixes the person left for dead, and instead, he…
Sees the man.
Feels compassion for him.
Goes to him.
Soothes his wounds.
Puts the man on his donkey.
Takes him to a safe place.
Returns to care for him.
I pray I do the same for you.
Love,
Aaron

Thank you for this!
