Friend,
You did it. You took that leap of faith.
People thought you were a little crazy, but you stepped out in faith like the preachers tell you to, you did that big thing, and you trusted God until you fell on your face.
Thud.
Now what do you do when not only your body is recovering from the fall, but your faith that once was strong enough to leap into the unknown is barely about to crawl back to the known?
I’m sure you are full of questions.
Was that God who was speaking?
Was I listening to God, myself, or someone else?
Did I do something wrong to screw it up?
Did God forget about me?
Why?
This is about the time in the letter, when I try to give a short word of inspiration, perspective, or hope that will make you better today, but there isn’t a sentence that answers those questions or a scripture that instantly heals your pain.
So instead, I offer a few reflections that are woefully short, but gently offered:
It is not over. I believe God is not done with you and yours yet.
Thank you. The theologian Garth Brooks once said, “Life is not tried, it is merely survived if your standing outside the fire.” Your leap and your limp inspire me.
You are not alone. I’m here. If you need to chat, text, vent, or even talk, I’m here for you.
Love,
Aaron
I guess I need to listen to more country music/lyrics! I'm missing a whole genre of material! Have you ever heard "Walk" by the Foo Fighters? I actually prefer the acoustic version that came out later, but that song lifted me out of many a trying time in life. There is one phrase about building paper mountains and watching them burn. The paper mountain - one that is not strong enough to climb. We (as humans) often build "unattainable" or "unrealistic" mountains creating sadness, anger, and negativity when we can't overcome them. It gets me every time. :)
