Friend,
“When-win?”
You know what that is right?
It’s where you say, “When this happens, then I’ll win at life.”
Here are a few examples, we tell ourselves.
When I get married, I’ll be happy.
When I get that promotion, I’ll have made it.
When I finally get out of debt, I can live my life.
When I lose twenty-five pounds, I’ll be enough.
I’m not here to discourage you from having and obtaining your goals. Goals are good! Get healthier, save money, be a great employee, and have relationships that matter. Those are all good but don’t tie your winnings only into your whens.
Maybe you are weary because you have spent too much time trying to “win” instead of learning the gift of contentment.
It’s easy to focus on Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” We’ve made this our slogan to help us achieve our “when” goals.
However, we need to read the verse immediately before as Paul says, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation… I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
This is not about achieving our goals, but about walking with God no matter what.
So maybe today, let’s not focus on our “whens” or our “wins,” but let’s focus on the “who” can give us strength, joy, and love no matter what: Jesus.

Than you for this word. I am reminded that as a young, married couple, my ex-husband had a tendency to say, “If we can just get through this month’s bills, we’ll be all right.” One day when he said that and I chimed in, “We keep making through each month so far, praise God! Have faith!”
Yes and Yes!
These verses have given me stability as I’ve journeyed with Jesus. Step by step and day by day. He is my strength, even from childhood to today, I can trace His footsteps even when I didn’t know it was Him. His goodness follows me/us!
