When You've Forgotten How to Dream
#162
Friend,
“Some of us have nightmared for so long that we’ve forgotten how to dream.”
I heard that quote from a pastor recently, and I thought about you. I know it hasn’t been easy for you, and you’ve gotten to the place where you would settle for going from worse to bad. Good seems to be miles and miles away. And great seems impossible.
Life has been a nightmare, but if you want a nightmare to end, then something has to change. You can’t change your circumstances, but you can begin to dream again.
I know you don’t want to dream. Dreaming is scary and can be disappointing. I heard someone say that hope is a double-edged sword. The beautiful thing about hope is that it might happen. The terrible thing about hope is that it might not happen.
And living a nightmare means that even imagining and dreaming about the good life feels impossible, but I want you to practice today.
Would you take 90 seconds and dream? Would you imagine what you could become, what life could become? Go ahead, I’ll wait…
And now, what is one thing you could do in the next 90 seconds to take a step towards that future? (Get your running shoes out, delete the app that distracts you hours on end, read your Bible, text a friend to meet for lunch, etc.)
Dreaming again takes practice; might as well start now.
Love,
Aaron
