Friend,
“Who told you?”
You still remember what they said to you when you were 8 or 18 or 38. Those words that were only spoken for a split-second have been replayed in your mind for decades. Even if you don’t remember the exact words, you remember exactly how you felt: humiliated, less than, and a failure.
This is the second question that God asked in the garden, “Who told you (that you were naked)?” This is another question that we have to reflect on.
Who told you that you were not enough?
Who told you that you would never succeed?
Who told you that you had to do that to get love or approval?
Who told you that that was the only way you could protect yourself?
Sometimes, the voices are outside of you. Other times, the voices are inside of you. Like in the movie Inside Out, the voices of Joy, Sadness, and Fear are trying to protect you from something, even if their perspective is limited. Fear might be telling you, “This is risky, don’t do it,” but that internal voice isn’t necessarily the voice of God.
So, today, I invite you to hear the question, “Who told you?” Try to understand where that anxiety, fear, sense, and thought come from, and then see if it comes from the voice of God, from that outside voice from four decades ago, or from that inner voice that might be misguided in trying to protect you.
Love,
Aaron
Also, this is the second question highlighted in Healing What’s Within by Chuck Degroat. If these letters resonate with you, then I trust this book will resonate with you as well. '
