Why Don't Adults Get Spring Break?
#199
Friend,
I know what you are thinking, “Why don’t adults get Spring Break?”
We can be happy for kids and teenagers who have been keeping up with their homework, competing, and dealing with being maneuvered by others most of the day, but most aren’t dealing with the heaviness of responsibility like you are.
If anyone needs a break, it’s you.
I know you are tired.
Tired of the never-ending to-do list.
Tired of dealing with the unprocessed grief of last year.
Tired of the constant news feed.
You need a break.
I can’t give you Spring Break, but I can encourage you to be a person of Sabbath. My favorite definition of Sabbath is a healthy rhythm of work and rest. You weren’t designed for 24/7 of non-stop reality. You were created to rest, to be renewed, to sleep 1/3 of the day, and to have a day-long rest at the end of each week.
So your boss won’t give you a Spring Break, but your God has given you an example of Sabbath (Creation) and a command to Sabbath (no. 4 on the big list), and so I invite you this week to take a break and be.
Love,
Aaron
