You'd Rather Be Busy than Sad
#171
Friend,
“How are you?”
“Busy.”
This is your common answer to that common question: busy.
And you are busy. You have work things, family things, and just life things. You aren’t necessarily seeking out busyness, but busyness seems to find you anyway.
And here is the thing:
You like it.
You cherish it.
You delight in your busyness.
Why?
Because your busyness protects you from your sadness, and you’d rather be busy than sad.
Busyness is easy compared to grief. With busyness, you always have a list, you always have a calendar, you always have something to fill your mind. Being busy gives you a sense of control in life.
Grief is vastly different. You can’t check grief off the list, you can’t schedule it, and grief certainly isn’t under your control.
Here is the other thing about grief, if you don’t make room for it, then it’ll barge in at the wrong time and look like something else: anger, frustration, anxiety, just to name a few.
So go ahead and carve out a little time to grieve, I’m sure you can find 30 minutes somewhere before it finds you.
Love,
Aaron
