Friend,
“Hungry kids struggle to learn.”
I remember hearing this years ago, and, like some truths that are outside of your experiences, it took me a little bit before I understood it.
As I listened to my wife when she was a teacher and other teachers, I began to understand that feeding our children is key to educating our children. We must take in basic nutrition to go deeper to new levels.
Here’s another thing that we know: The more you exercise and work out the more calories you need to take in to have the strength for the workout. Michael Phelps most notably took in 8,000-10,000 calories during his record-setting Olympic performances.
It’s simple to have a great output, we need a great input.
But that’s not simple.
Because,
You are busy. You are going. You are serving. You are making dinner, mowing yards, folding laundry, etc.
And here is where that will get you: exhausted and unable to learn and grow.
And what you are doing is putting yourself into a spiritual, intellectual, and emotional deficit. Your heart, soul, and mind are starving.
And a starving soul struggles to love.
I know you are busy, and you can’t imagine where you would find the time to read a book, reflect on a podcast, do more than a 5 minute devotional (if you even get that in), but what I want to tell you is that your starving soul needs to eat more than crumbs.
So today, schedule 30-60 minutes in the next week for your starving soul to eat. Read the book of Ephesians, one of those books on your shelf that you’ve intended to read for 3 years now, or journal your weary thoughts.
And then do it again.
Love,
Aaron
